TOPIC: *TEN PITFALLS IN THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY*

1. *Money and Fame*
Money is a major destroyer of a prophetic calling. Some prophets have fallen because of the love of money. Balaam was led to prophesy to Balak because of money.
Do not allow money to lead you into prophecy. We easily release prophetic words when someone gives us an earthly blessing. Some give scaring prophecies to people and make financial demand to use the money to avert the danger.
You must be led by the Spirit before prophesying. Beloved, what is motivating you to prophesy?
Some prophecies are founded on pride and the craving for fame and popularity.
I discovered that true prophets of God usually hide their identity; they don’t want to be known. There were 7,000 quiet prophets in Israel during the time of Elijah that refused to bow to Baal.
2. *Over Familiarity with the Prophetic Office:*
This is another pitfall in the prophetic Ministry. The sin of profanity is taking the things of God for granted. When you know God is speaking but refuse to act and take Him for granted, it is a sin.
Are we not used to saying the Lord told me when actually He didn't say anything to you.
And sometimes we don't seek God to clearly hear from Him. We assume that because God spoke through a particular way, He must still speak through that same way us.
3. *Some Prophets do not have the Teaching Anointing:*
Some prophets are preachers of the Word while others are teachers of the Word. There are some who are both preachers and teachers of Gods Word.
Never step into the teaching Ministry if He has not called you into it. I have heard of a prophet who died many years back because he began to teach when he was not called to teach. Often times, we are tempted to act on what we are seeing. It is not all you see in the Spirit realm that is meant for you.
4. *Tribal or National Sentiment*
When a prophet is led by feelings rather than by the Spirit, he is in a big trouble. Sometimes when evil men do evil things we prayed God to judge them even to death.
But when it is our loved ones or someone close to us, we hardly pray for judgment but mercy. Effective prayers begins by knowing the mind of God concerning people, places and things before asking for the needs to be met by petition prayers or declaration.
When you prefer some believers more than others it could affect your receiving prophetic revelations. We must be guided by love.
Be led by the Holy Spirit on knowing, praying and acting the will and purposes of God. Do not be led by sentiments.
5. *Seeking Prophetic experiences rather than fellowship and intimacy with God:*
We always want to hear and see into the spirit world. And when the revelations come true, we shift from fellowshipping with God to experiences. We should not seek experiences but fellowship with God.
The secret is this: the more intimate you are with God the more visions and revelations you will receive. It is prayers that births visions and revelation.
The first call of God in our lives is to be at His feet in fellowship. He called His disciples to first be with Him, and then He may decide to send them or not. (Mark 3:11).
But there are times the Lord may prompt you to get positioned to receive a prophetic revelation, go ahead.
6. *Carrying the Burdens of the People instead of the Burden of the Lord:*
All prophets are intercessors but not all intercessors are prophets.
Prophets carry the burdens of the Lord. If you do not carry the burden of the Lord you will carry the burden of people.
The burden of the Lord is the will and the purposes of God concerning people, places and things and what He wants you to do specifically.
Intercessors could just pray any burden they feel even when Gods heart is not in it. Prophets dont have particular and fixed time for prayers but pray at any time a burden from the Lord comes to their hearts.
They are more sensitive to oncoming dangers against people and nations than the average Christian. When they receive a burden from the Lord concerning a matter, they spend time praying about it, and sometimes gather people to join them in the intercession.
Our spirit is built to carry so many burdens but ensure the burdens of the people you are carrying are given to you by the Lord. When God is through with the matter, a new burden will be put into your heart.
7. *Failing to Cooperate with other Ministries;*
Immature prophets want to be independent. They do not want to be accountable to people. There are many immature Ministries around us.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to DWELL TOGETHER IN UNITY! It is like the precious ointment upon the head that ran down upon the beard even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. (Ps. 133:1-3).
There are ministries that God has designed that you work with. Sometimes He will want you to network with a Ministry with a similar anointing like yours or He will relocate you to a place with a totally different anointing like yours.
He places you there so that you may be of blessing to them. You might see some things that are not in order or a displacement of a spiritual principle and He will send you there to correct some anomalies so that there might be order in the Lords House.
8. *Failing to Discern Wrong Visions and Revelations:*
Another pitfall in the prophetic Ministry is failure to discern wrong visions and revelations. Visions and revelation comes to us in three ways: from God, from Satan, by our human spirit and daily activities.
Vision comes in a picture form and our human spirit could produce an image. Though much activities of the day could result to a dream, the enemy could manipulate it.
Any vision or revelation that is for the advancement of Gods Kingdom and is in line with the word of God is from the Lord. Voices have tune.
Learn to know the tune of your own voice. The tune of the enemy’s voice is hard, fearful, distorted, and strange and comes with a threat. The still-small voice of the Holy Spirit is gentle, cool and definite. The audible voice of the Holy Spirit is authoritative, very clear and direct.
9. *Overcome the Spirit of Jezebel:*
The spirit of Jezebel is out to destroy the prophetic Ministry.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. (Rev. 2:20-23).
Prophets must be very careful of what they watch and hear because their spirit is very sensitive and magnetic. It easily snaps pictures, images and voices into their spirit and mind.
Such negative picture or words could stay there for a long period of time. What goes out of a man is the resultant effect of what went in. One will be conformed to the image of what they are beholding. Therefore, they must check their area of influences.
10. *Not Motivated by Love*
The primary sign that one is a mature believer is when he is walking in the love of God. The primary motivation of a genuine prophet is the love of God.
Paul had great visions and revelations. He had great faith to move mountains, etc. With all that, he saw that what a prophet needs is walking in love.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away (1Cor.14:1-8).
When you are walking in the love of the father, certain gift of the Holy Spirit you didnt ask god would start manifesting in your life. Let us be motivated by love to prophecy and not by anger. Let love motivate us and not money. Let love motivate us and not fame. God is love.
Any prophet who is not walking in love, familiar spirits will take over him to prophecy satanic prophecies. To avoid falling into the pit that follows the prophetic ministry, learn to walk in love.
